STRANGE FIRE
JAN, 26, 2018

Shinya Masuda’s work makes visual the complexity of familial relationships. Carrying on family traditions while claiming a self-determined path has long been the subject of novels and films. Masuda uses the objects in his daily life that signify relationship and the conflicting way of love, enmity, and reconciliation.

I was interviewed by Ms.Hamidah Glasgow.
I could spend such a meaningful time with questions which drew what lies deep in my mind.
This interview became a wonderful occasion for me to reveal, for the first time, the inner aspects of HANAFUDA SHOZOKU, to the world.
I hope the audience can enjoy not only the visual side but the background of my project.
I am truly honored that my project is featured in this beautiful website.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

STRANGE FIRE COLLECTIVE introduces work made by women, people of color, and queer and trans artists.
They pick upcoming artists who play an active role on a global scale.
Ms.Hamidah Glasgow is the Executive Director of The Center for Fine Art Photography.
Since I met her at c4fap in 2016, she warmly keeps on watching the growth of my project and keeps me on the right track.
I am so grateful to get this interview offer from her. Thank you so very much.

I’d also like to thank my superb translator, Yuki Ishimaru who usually flies everywhere around the world as an interpreter.
Her excellent translation takes me higher and I can’t thank her enough.
